“Neck pain” can describe a variety of problems associated with the neck, shoulders, and even upper arms. Common symptoms include stiffness, muscle pain, headaches, and numbness or tingling into the upper extremity. Common causes of neck pain include sprained ligaments or joints, pressure on spinal discs causing bulging or herniation, and muscle strains. These types of neck pain often improve with time and professional care. But if the neck pain continues or worsens, or is accompanied by arm pain or numbness, there is often a specific condition that requires additional treatment.
